Here is the current round-up . . .<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Association of College and Research Libraries, part of the American Library Association, received a grant and conducted the project: Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success. The final report in 2017, discusses these positive connections between the library and student learning:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Students benefit from library instruction in their initial coursework. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Library use increases student success.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Collaborative academic programs and services involving the library enhance student learning. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Information literacy instruction strengthens general education outcomes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Library research consultations boost student learning.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">They also mention that there is promising evidence here:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">The library contributes to improved student retention.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Library instruction adds value to a student\u2019s long-term academic experience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">The library promotes academic rapport and student engagement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s2\">Use of library space relates positively to student learning and success.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition, other relevant articles found correlations between library use, instruction and expenditures and higher GPA, retention and graduation:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2021 (Rowe) &#8211; Library instruction correlates to student success (large sample over four years).<\/li>\n<li>2020 (Newton) &#8211; Research consultations correlate with better grades.<\/li>\n<li>2020 (Mayer) &#8211; Correlation between use of library resources and student persistence.<\/li>\n<li>2020 (Beile) &#8211; Students who used one or more library services had higher end-of-semester GPAs.<\/li>\n<li>2019 (Marineo) &#8211; Participation with the online information literacy module correlated with better GPA and retention.<\/li>\n<li>2018 (LeMaistre) &#8211; Use of online library resources correlated with better GPA and retention.<\/li>\n<li>2017 (Gaha) &#8211; GPAs are higher for students who have had library instruction.<\/li>\n<li>2016 (Thorpe) &#8211; Library use correlates with higher GPA and retention.<\/li>\n<li>2016 (Massengale) &#8211; Library use correlates with higher GPA.<\/li>\n<li>2013 (Stone) &#8211; Library activity correlates with better student attainment.<\/li>\n<li>2013 (Soria) &#8211; Library users have higher GPA and retention.<\/li>\n<li>2013 (Cherry) &#8211; Use of electronic resources correlated with higher GPA.<\/li>\n<li>2012 (Bowles) &#8211; There is a correlation between library instruction and higher GPA.<\/li>\n<li>2011 (Emmons) &#8211; There is a relationship between library professional staffing and retention and graduation.<\/li>\n<li>2007 (Mezick) &#8211; There is a correlation between library expenditures and retention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Resources<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Association of College and Research Libraries.
