Here is a biggie from the US Department of Education:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/pubs2012\/2012046.pdf\">Higher Education: Gaps in Access and Persistence Study.<\/a> And we find there is still room for improvement here:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/rschstat\/research\/pubs\/advancing-diversity-inclusion.pdf\">Advancing Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even more depressing, some disparities have worsened in recent decades:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/article\/Racial-Disparities-in-Higher\/234129\">Racial Disparities in Higher Education: an Overview.<\/a> Also there is evidence that where there have been some gains with faculty diversity, it is in the insecure jobs, not the\u00a0tenure track positions:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2016\/08\/22\/study-finds-gains-faculty-diversity-not-tenure-track\">More Faculty Diversity, Not on Tenure Track.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, how can academic libraries help? One way is that\u00a0we can be part of the support that helps to remedy any disparities with student achievement. For example, we have a Minnesota State system-wide faculty development book group where we read and discussed the books <em>Hillbilly Elegy<\/em> and <em>Enrique&#8217;s Journey<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>6 &#8211; Keep looking for opportunities to transform the library to better serve everyone!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
