Library Data – Professional Development

June 20, 2025

Here are my favorite professional development opportunities related to better using data in libraries:

Library Carpentry

An oldie but a goodie. Cleaning the data is so important! And OpenRefine is so helpful. (I already had experience with UNIX and REGEX from working at a database vendor, but those are good too.) Highly recommended.

Elements of AI

There are many exercises that really helped me understand better how things work in the backend. AI is definitely not as intelligent as one might hope. Highly recommended.

NC LIVE Student Success Course

There are many articles correlating library use with student success. If you want to explore your library data with respect to student success, this course takes you through the process step by step! (It even covers the tests to use to check for statistical significance.) Highly recommended.
